2019 Symposium Announcement

A Note from the Symposium Organizing Committee

Academics and others who work in communities experiencing environmental injustices have special responsibilities. We must exercise great care that our work does not harm these communities’ interests, but rather benefits them to the greatest extent possible. We must also allow communities to speak for themselves. As organizers of an academic conference considering the science, economics, law, and politics of Environmental Justice, we also are bound by these principles. As such, and in keeping with the spirit of Penn’s Guidelines on Open Expression, we invite the widest participation and dialogue with our symposiasts and our keynote speaker. The event is open to all, and for those that cannot attend, we invite you to share your questions and comments with the organizers and panel moderators, so that your voices can be part of the discussion.
