Biographical InformationMegan Postemski is an Archaeologist with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. She received her B.A. in Anthropology and History from Muhlenberg College in 2013 and completed her Ph.D. in Anthropology with a focus in Historical Archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania in 2021. Her dissertation, Cultivating Communities on the Eastern Frontier: Agrarian Landscapes and Life in Downeast Maine (1760-1860), examines how Euroamericans transformed the Downeast Maine landscape through settlement and enclosure from the late 18th century onward. While Megan’s archaeological experience is primarily in the Northeast US, she helped lead over 10 archaeological projects in Maryland and Virginia as a Project Archaeologist at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and has participated in archaeological projects in New Mexico, Peru, and French Guiana. She also serves as Newsletter Editor for the Council for Northeast Historical Archaeology. Her broader research interests include historical archaeology of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, landscape archaeology, frontiers, settlement patterns, GIS, and Cultural Resource Management.
