Linda Chance is Associate Professor of Japanese Language and Literature and Associate Chair of the East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania. Her primary field is the prose of the medieval era in Japan, particularly the random essay form (zuihitsu). She teaches courses on classical Japanese language literature, history and culture. Her current research project focuses on literary masquerade across gender (and other) lines. Alongside Dr. Julie Davis, she is a co-founder of the Faculty Working Group RAMS: Reading Asian Manuscripts, which has hosted reading workshops with Dr. Laura Moretti of Cambridge University, a transcribathon, and symposia.
