Abstract: Understanding causation is a major problem for scientists, statisticians and philosophers alike. A major advance in the study of causality from a scientific and statistical perspective came when Judea Pearl realized it is possible to think about causality using graphs and basic probability theory. In this talk I will discuss what causality is, why it matters, bayesian networks, causal inference and sacred chickens.
