Title: The Life and Mathematics of Friedrich Hirzebruch
Abstract: Friedrich Hirzebruch (1927-2012) was one of the most important German mathematicians in the post-war period (source: Wikipedia). His work spanned resolution of singularities and continued fractions, topological K-theory, “more and more number theory in topology”, “more and more algebraic geometry in combinatorics”, as well as (re)forging relations amongst mathematicians throughout World War II and the Cold War. We will briefly discuss his life and amazing discoveries; we hope there will be something of interest for everybody.
