Lisa Thompson, C’87, majored in mathematics in the College of Arts & Sciences and discusses how her liberal arts education gave her the ability to explore a range of academic disciplines and develop a broad set of skills that she applies daily in her career. Thompson is currently a Portfolio Manager at The Capital Group and is a member of PWA’s Advisory Board.

Here are a few pieces of advice she lives by:

  • Take some risk. The more risks you take the more comfortable you will be with taking risk and with failure. Without taking risk you might end up with feeling unsatisfied because you didn’t reach or dream.
  • Everyday do something that is uncomfortable or that you don’t want to do. Even if it is something small. It will help you grow.
  • Share your gratitude – broadly. Thank people who have helped you along the way and try and help others. This is just a nice thing to do, it will not only make them feel good and want to help others, but it will make you feel good, too.
