Training in Core Discipline

LCS graduate trainees will typically come from one of the participating core graduate programs:

  • Computer and Information Sciences
  • Linguistics
  • Neuroscience
  • Psychology

LCS trainees are expected to satisfy all the requirements of their home Ph.D. program. We recognize that in-depth expertise is needed within any science, and we do not want to water-down training for the sake of interdisciplinary breadth. Most participating departments have Ph.D. course requirements that are usually completed by Year 2 or 3, and the coursework required for the LCS program can generally be counted towards departmental credit requirements as well (subject to approval of the respective Graduate program director). Students work with their advisor, the LCS director, and their Graduate program director to coordinate their LCS coursework with their Phd program’s requirements.
