Course Descriptions:

This course is designed for students who have completed one year of college-level Chinese or equivalent. Prior knowledge of the Chinese pinyin system is expected. Prior knowledge of Chinese characters is not required. The main objective of this course is to improve students’ conversational ability in Chinese in order to accomplish day-to-day tasks. Topics covered in this course include communicating with a taxi driver, shopping at a local market, making reservations and dining at a restaurant, hosting or attending a formal banquet, discussing different cuisines and dining cultures, making and taking telephone calls, etc. Most assignments for this course are in the spoken form, though some written assignments and assessments in Pinyin will also be given.

Xuésheng:       Máfan dào Chóngqìng Nán Lùde Táiwān Yínháng, xièxie.

Sījī:                 Nǐde Guóyǔ shuōde búcuò ó! Zài nǎli xuéde?

Xuésheng:       Wǒ zài Měiguó, dàlù gēn Táiwān dōu xuéguo.

Sījī:                 Nǐ lái Táiwān duō jiǔ le?

Xuésheng:       Lái le sān ge duō yuè le. Āiyò! Nǐ kāide tài kuàile, xiàsǐ rén le! Kě bu kěyi kāi màn yìdiǎn?

Sījī:                 Méi wènti, fàngxīn la. Qiánmiàn jiù dàole.

Xuésheng:       Duōshǎo qián?

Sījī:                 Jiǔshíwǔ kuài.
