Chih-jen “Melvin” Lee has been a Chinese language lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania since 2005. He received a BA in English language and literature from National Taiwan University and an MA in Asian Studies from Seton Hall University. He is currently a PhD candidate in East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania. His teaching experience ranges from beginning to advanced level classes and is currently coordinating the Beginning Chinese III and IV classes. He is a co-author of Speak and Act: Beginning Chinese (Volume I). He also teaches Advanced Medical Chinese through PLC (Penn Language Center). He served as the head instructor of the STARTALK Penn High School Chinese Academy from 2007 to 2014. From 2015 to 2016, he was the Deputy Executive Director at Penn’s Fox Leadership Program.
