Chih-jen “Melvin” Lee

Chih-jen “Melvin” Lee has been a Chinese language lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania since 2005. He received a BA in English language and literature from National Taiwan University, an MA in Asian Studies from Seton Hall University, and a Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Pennsylvania. His teaching experience spans from beginning to advanced levels, and he currently coordinates the Intermediate Chinese I and II classes. He also teaches Spoken Chinese and Advanced Medical Chinese through PLC (Penn Language Center). He served as the head instructor of the STARTALK Penn High School Chinese Academy from 2007 to 2014. He is a co-author of the textbook Speak and Act: Beginning Chinese (Volume I)His research interests include Chinese language pedagogy, curriculum design, and the history of Chinese language education in the U.S.
