Course Description

This course is designed for those who have taken one semester of college level Chinese or equivalent. Prior knowledge of the Chinese pinyin writing system is expected. No knowledge of Chinese characters is require. The course aims to help students continue building a solid foundation of the TWO skills critical for oral communication—listening and speaking. By the end of the semester, you will be able to handle a number of situations that have immediate concern to you, including relating past experiences; making promise or compromise; expressing preferences and feelings, making inquiries and commands; purchasing goods in a store; ordering food in a restaurant; asking for and give walking directions; making basic comparisons and contrasts of various objects or opinions; relating simple information about academic studies; giving short narratives that explain or relate a situation.
