Course Descriptions:
This course is the continuing course for CHIN 0305. Prior knowledge of the Chinese pinyin system is expected. Prior knowledge of Chinese characters is not required. The main objective of this course is to improve students’ conversational ability in Chinese in order to accomplish day-to-day tasks. Toward the second half of the course, topics will become more formal and the class assignments will include more discussions. Topics introduced in this course include making a visit to a friend’s home, visiting a friend at the hospital, discussing hobbies and leisure activities, talking about TV shows, seeing a doctor and describing symptoms, discussing aspects of the geography, population, history, and culture of a country, discussing environmental concerns, etc. Most assignments for this course are in the spoken form, though some written assignments and assessments in Pinyin will also be given.
