We are pleased to host an image competition for the APS Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP), which will be held at the University of Pennsylvania in January 2024.

Goal: To recognize outstanding artistic contributions that support women in physics and enhance community engagement. We welcome image contributions of many different kinds (digital drawings, photographs, hand drawings, paintings, logos, impressions, etc). Example images from previous years are shown below. The contributions can be used to decorate our conference program booklet, posters, social media, the conference website, etc.

Deadline: Sunday, January 14th, 2024, at 5pm ET

Results: Winners will be notified at the conference

Prizes: The jury will award the following prizes:

  • 1st prize: $250
  • 2nd prize: $150
  • 3rd prize: $100

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at an academic institution in the the United States
  • Applicants must be interested in physics or a related discipline
  • Applicants are allowed to submit multiple entries if they are entirely different concepts
  • Entries must be submitted in the correct format and before the deadline
  • Entries must be original, not based on any previous work, and made by the applicant alone.
  • Entries that violate copyright, trademark, or any other laws are not eligible.
  • Entries are not eligible if made under the supervision of an instructor or as part of a class assignment
  • Entries cannot be used for other competitions or any other purpose
  • Applicants agree to transfer the copyright of their entries
  • Winners must register and attend the conference so as to receive their prize in person

Format:

Entries must be in PNG or JPG format. The maximum file size is 5MB. Please keep any high-resolution versions for later use. For the filename, please use this format: [YOURLASTNAME]_[YOURFIRSTNAME]_[IMAGETITLE].png, e.g. Smith_Jane_Telescope.png
