Philadelphia Federal Statistical Research Data Center Workshop

The Population Studies Center and DDDI will be co-sponsoring an event hosted by the Methodology Working Group on available data in the Philadelphia Federal Statistical Research Center (FSRDC), how to prepare a proposal to access the data, as well as the process of becoming a Special Sworn Status researcher. This talk will be particularly relevant to researchers interested in using data collected by the US Census Bureau and will be presented by Jeffery Lin (FSRDC Co-director) and Joe Ballegeer (FSRDC Administrator).

The presentation will take place on Wednesday, Oct 12 at 10:30am in McNeil 367.

As the field of data science grows, the demand for training in methodologies that allow us to draw inferences from “big data” has also increased. This Penn Today article situates DDD’s effort to meet these demands while supporting scholarship from disparate fields that utilize quantitative approaches. Every Thursdays at noon from June 23 through Aug 11, DDDI will be hosting a Data Science Hangouts for undergraduates interested in learning more about data science. The 8-week workshop features talks by our faculty and hands-on tutorials. Talks will be held in person at Meyerson Hall B1 and B13, as well as on Zoom. See link here for full schedule.

Women in Data Science @ Penn Conference

The University of Pennsylvania is proud to host the third annual Women in Data Science (WiDS) @ Penn Conference on February 9-10, 2022. WiDS Philadelphia @ Penn is an independent event that is organized by The Wharton School as part of the annual WiDS Worldwide conference organized by Stanford University and an estimated 200+ locations worldwide, which features outstanding women doing outstanding work in the field of data science. All genders are invited to attend all WiDS Worldwide conference events.

This year’s theme – This is What a Data Scientist Looks Like – emphasizes the diversity of data science, both in subject matter and personnel. A celebrated interdisciplinary event, WiDS @ Penn will welcome academic, student, and industry speakers from across the data science landscape.
