Wei Guo
Hirsch Family President’s Distinguished Professor of Biology
Wei Guo is the Hirsch Family President’s Distinguished Professor of Biology. Guo works primarily on cell biology and cancer biology. Taking a multidisciplinary approach that combines biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, structure biology, and microscopic imaging, Guo has made discoveries that contributed to the fundamental understanding of the molecular mechanisms of exocytosis. In addition, his work on the biogenesis of extracellular vesicles revealed new mechanisms of cancer cell immune evasion, and provided a molecular rationale for targeting extracellular vesicles in cancer treatment and biomarker development. He has published extensively in leading scientific journals, and his contributions are interdisciplinary, with impact across many areas including cell biology, bioengineering, and medicine. At Penn, Guo has contributed as a member of the Committee for Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning and Budget Committee, among many other roles.
