Spiegel-Wilks Seminar: Venice Biennale

Contemporary Art in East Asia and the World

About this website

This website is designed as part of our class, Art History 313: Spiegel Wilks Seminar: Contemporary Art in East Asia and the World, from fall semester, 2019, at the University of Pennsylvania. In our course, we studied twentieth- and twenty-first century art, focusing on issues confronting artists living in and from East Asia, with an emphasis on the contemporary. As part of our study, we went to the Venice Biennale in October and considered how artists from East and Southeast Asia are represented in national pavilions and group shows. Our website presents our findings around selected topics.  Our course was supported by the Spiegel-Wilks fund for contemporary art.

The team: Reese Berman, Cecily Chen, Natasha Guy, Eda Ozuner, Brooke Price, and Julie Nelson Davis.
