Philadelphia Museum of Art
Museum Studies Intern
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is Philadelphia’s art museum. We are a landmark building. A world-renowned collection. A place that welcomes everyone. We bring the arts to life, inspiring visitors—through scholarly study and creative play—to discover the spirit of imagination that lies in everyone. We connect people with the arts in rich and varied ways, making the experience of the Museum surprising, lively, and always memorable. We are committed to inviting visitors to see the world—and themselves—anew through the beauty and expressive power of the arts.
What to expect
The Museum Studies Internship Program is an internship opportunity that provides interns with exposure to the inner-workings of a major metropolitan museum, promoting an awareness of careers in the field through experiences not available in most academic settings. An internship with the Philadelphia Museum of Art is an invaluable cultural, professional, and personal experience.
The RealArts@Penn internship at Philadelphia Museum of Art is part of the larger Museum Studies Internship Program at the Museum, which selects a diverse group of talented undergraduate and graduate students from a highly competitive international pool of candidates. This internship is made up of two parts: the intern works for three-and-one-half days per week in the Museum’s curatorial department; one-and-one-half days per week they participate in the larger Museum Studies colloquium. The intern will work closely with the curators and staff in the curatorial department on both special and ongoing projects relating to the museum’s collections and exhibitions.
Time Requirements:
The Internship Program lasts nine weeks. Interns will report to the Museum from 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Who We are Looking For
The ideal candidate is energetic and also curious and passionate about art, but an academic major in art history is not required.
