Japanese Proficiency Tests (2020)

1. NJE (National Japanese Exam)
National Japanese Exam (NJE), developed by American Association of  Teachers of Japanese, is an online, proficiency-oriented, standards-based and culture-related assessment tool for students learning Japanese, including college level.
If you take Japanese courses (Beginning Japanese II and Beginning Japanese IV) in the spring semester, we offer students to take NJE at UPenn campus.

Test Date: Friday, March 27, 2020
Level 3 (students in JPAN022 and JPAN112): The exam begins at 1:00 PM
– Level 2 (students in JPAN012): The exam begins at 3 PM
Test Location: Van Pelt Library, 1st Floor, Goldstein Electronic Classroom

If you are interested in taking NJE, please notify your instructor either in person or via email along with the registration fee of $10 by Thursday, January 30, or the day of your instructor’s choice (cash only and non-refundable). Registration will be completed with the exam fee payment. Please note that this is non-refundable. Even if you miss the exam or decide not to take the exam after registration, you cannot get the exam fee back.  Note: There is no make-up exam.

2. JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test)
Test Date: Sunday, December 6, 2020 @ Villanova University (Philadelphia, PA)
Registration Period: TBA
Why taking JLPT?
JLPT certificates offer various advantages, ranging from recognition as academic credit and graduation certification at schools to preferential treatment at companies and acknowledgment of qualification in society.
If you are interested taking N1 or N2, we offer JPAN 481 as a preparatory course.
** The July JLPT is not offered in the U.S. at this time. **
